Rahr
Beer of the Week
By Barry Shlachter
Star-Telegram Staff Writer
The beer: Rahr & Sons Summertime Wheat
The cost: $7.69 to $8.49 a six-pack
Where to buy it: Hall's, Majestic, Kings, Central Market
Why you should check it out: If you're a fan of Fort Worth's microbrewery and its German-style beers, you'll want to know about this rye-and-wheat (roggen weisse) seasonal brew, Rahr's first ale and a very different take. It could well be Rahr's best effort to date, maybe even world-class. And if you're not a fan of beer in general, Summertime Wheat might be the beer to convert you. It pours a healthy head with full-bodied flavor -- notes of citrus, clove, banana and, depending on your palate, something akin to Double Bubble gum. Alcohol is 5.5 percent. It should pair nicely with seafood or just about any summer fare. A must-try.
